I’m Francis, a physician and entrepreneur based in the Bay Area. My work spans clinical medicine, digital health and medical devices. I’m currently co-founder and CEO of Auricle, where we’re developing a neural implant to restore hearing.

  1. Co-founder & CEO

    Auricle

    Developing a breakthrough neural implant to restore hearing in patients who no longer benefit from hearing aids but are not prepared to get a cochlear implant. Our minimally invasive approach aims to preserve residual hearing through a less invasive and reversible surgery.

  2. Biodesign Innovation Fellow

    Stanford University

    Straddled the COVID-19 pandemic with an incredible group of clinicians and engineers at one of the most magical places in the world for healthcare innovation. Learned the Biodesign needs-driven methodology and got to apply it in the real-world.

  3. Consultant

    Haven ยท Boston

    Joined for a summer to help the incredibly ambitious health initiative formed by Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan. Worked on provider network selection, health plan design and virtual primary care.

  4. Co-founder & CEO

    Outcomes.com

    Founded and led the development of a digital health platform that enabled the routine capture of patient-reported outcomes. The goal was to close the feedback loop on outcomes after surgical procedures and medical treatments, enabling more proactive care and to eventually predict outcomes and offer the most effective treatments based on individual patient factors.

    Participated in a week-long intensive seminar run by Michael Porter, with healthcare leaders from around the world, on how to implement value-based healthcare delivery models.

    Worked in numerous rotations in the UK's National Health Service before sub-specializing in urology.

    Imperial College School of Medicine (London, UK)

    Gained my medical degree and intercalated BSc in Surgery & Anaesthesia. Took my medical elective in cardiothoracic surgery in Malaysia. Published work on the factors associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture.

    Bought and sold high-end hi-fi equipment to indulge a hobby while paying for the downpayment on a flat.

  10. Loaded Internet

    Ran a webhosting provider with colocated servers in Ohio before the days of AWS, GoDaddy or Cloudflare.

  11. The Shell Review

    Started my first internet business at the age of 13, reviewing UNIX shell providers and selling banner adverts with revenue >$2000/month.

Side projects

  • Private Equity Vet

    Started in honor of our late dog Pluto. The site brings transparency to the corporate and private equity ownership of veterinary practices across the world. Covered by PBS Newshour and other media outlets. Helps thousands of pet parents choose where they seek care every day.

    Started out of our work with Private Equity Vet to highlight independent veterinary practices in the US, Canada and the UK. The site also enables practices to claim their practices and list job postings. Visited by around a thousand pet parents each day and growing by the day!
